How To Disable Or Enable OneDrive

*Same files works for SkyDrive also.

I like OneDrive. I really do. I love the cloud storage. I love that it's always available online no matter where I am.

But it does take up resources and it seems to be constantly scanning the files or calling home.

So to have the best of both worlds:
1. Keep OneDrive and all that free cloud storage
2. Easily turn it off when I'm not using it, to save resources

I have written these 2 reg files.

Disable OneDrive (SkyDrive)

It's pretty easy to do on your own. Just open up notepad and enter the following:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\skydrive] "DisableFileSync"=dword:00000001

And save it as onedrive_disable.reg

Then open notepad again and enter:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\skydrive] "DisableFileSync"=dword:00000000

And save it as onedrive_enable.reg

The only differnce is the last 0 or 1

Make sure the notepad save-as type is all files, and not txt
all files

Now when you want onedrive to sit down and shut up, just double-click the disable reg file. If you want to upload or download some files, turn it back on with the enable reg file.

If you'd rather you can just download this zip file with both the enable and disable reg files. Be sure to remember where you put them so you can turn OneDrive off or on when you need it.
