Building My Own Computer
I've always wanted to build my own computer.
I did a lot of research beforehand. Some great resources are:
PartPicker.Com - this is a website that helps you pick out the individual parts that go into building your own computer. This is a fantastic resource. They provide you with a list of the needed parts to make a complete build. Click on any part and you are presented with a exhaustive list of currently available offers, the best prices and ratings on that part. They also do an automatic compatability check for your list of parts updated in real time as you pick the individual parts. All this really saves you a LOT of time and trouble.
Another good research tool is Reddits subreddit r/buildapc. Here you can get all your questions answered, see what other people are choosing and get a heads up on all the latest and greatest builds.
Other sub-reddits that are useful include r/buildapcsales where dealer representatives list their latest best offers and /r/buildapcforme/ where you can just enter the specifications of what you want in your new computer or what you plan on using it for and volunteers will provide you with a formatted list of parts, prices and sources to get all you need to build it yourself.

As you can see this was quite a bargain. I already had several hard drives, a monitor, mouse, keyboard and a licensed copy of Windows 10 so they were not included in the list. This is not a gaming computer but it did score a 5.9 on the Windows Experience Index.
I ended up adding a SSD 248GB hard drive for windows 10 and all my programs and two 2TB hard drives to store all my files, pictures, movies, websites and music.
I couldn't be happier with my experience. The computer performs well beyond my expectations and should last me several years.
Pre build, here are all the parts.
Here is the empty case waiting for parts installation
Here is the completed case. At this point it has only the 248GB SSD drive. I booted it up and installed Windows 10. Later I added the other hard drives.
